Men 4x400m Relay: Japan team was victorious in all
relay events of the 19th Asian Athletics Championship and their men's
4x400m relay team ended the championship with gold medal with a timing
of 3:04.72, Saudi Arebia team was on the second place with 3:08.03 and
Iran clinched bronze medal in 3:08.58sec
Women 4x400m Relay: Miho Shingu lead Japaneese team to
gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay with a timing of 3:35.00sec.
Kazakstan team finished on the second place with 3:36.61sec while Iraq
team won bronze medal with 3:41.91sec.
Men 4x100m Relay: It was again Japan whose powerful
relay squad won gold medal in the men's 4x100m relay final with a timing
of 39.18sec. Hongkong won his first silver medal with a timing of
39.26sec.Chinese Taipai finished on the third place with 39.30sec
Women 4x100m relay: Host Japan swept relay title in the
women's 4x100m with a timing of 44.05sec while China and Thailand
finished on the second place with a timing of 44.23s and 44.62sec
respectively.
Men Long Jump: Su Xiongfeng of China won the hotly
contested final of men's long jump with a season best jump of 8.19m.
Supanara Sukhasvasti of Thailand and Rikiya Saruyama of Japan remained
locked with the identical distance of 8.05m but Supanara of Thailand won
second place on the basis of second best jump of 7.74m.
Men Javelin Throw: World Championship medalist Yukifumi
Murakami of Japan delivered the promise of setting new championship
record in the men's Javelin throw. He hurled the new fibre glass javelin
to 83.27m to win gold medal. Jaemyoung Park of Korea took second place
position in his 5th attempt with 80.19m. Ivan Zaitcev of Uzbekistan
grabbed bronze medal with a distance of 79.22m.
Men 110m Hurdles: As expected Liu Xiang of China did
not disappoint his fans by winning fourht consecutive Asian Title in the
men's 110m Hurdles with a new championship record of 13.22sec. His
teammate Shi Dongpeng finished on the second place with 13.56sec.
Taekyong Park of Korea took bronze in 13.66sec.
Women 100m Hurdles: Sun Yawei sucessfully defended her
Asian title with a win in 100m Hurdles final at the 19th Asian Athletics
Championship in Kobe. Sun clocked 13.04sec to win the gold medal. Hyelim
Jung of Korea was elated with the silver medal finish with a time of
13.11sec. Natalaya Ivoninskaya of Kazakstan won bronze medal in
13.15sec.
Women 3000m Steeplechase: Minori Hayakari , 38 of Japan
defeated India’s Asian Games Champion Sudha Singh who was bidding to be
first women to win both Asian Games and Asian Championship in the final
of the women 3000m steeplechase with a new championship record of timing
of 9:52.42sec. Sudha settled on the silver place with a performance of
10:08.52sec. Thi Phuong Nguyen of Vietnam took bronze medal in
10:14.94s
Women High Jump: Another close contest was seen in
Women's High Jump where Xingjuan Zheng of China succesfully defended her
title in women's high jump by beating Kazak and Uzbek jumpers to win
gold medal in 1.92m. Svetlana Radzivil of UZB was on second place with
1.92m and Marina Aitova got bronze with 1.89m
Women Shot Put: Women Shot put final witnessed the
closest competition of the championship so far, featuring two Chinese
throwers who were separated by just 1cm between gold and silver medal.
In the end, Qianqian Meng emerged winner with 18.31 while favourite
Xiangrong Liu settled on second place in 18.30m. Leyla Rajabi of Iran
took home bronze medal with a throw of 16.60m.
Men 800m: Mohamed Mutlak Al-Azimi of Kuwait became the
only athlete to win both 800 and 1500m at the same Asian Championship.
Al-Azimi who is in tremendous form this season clocked 1:46.15sec to
win the gold medal and beat defending champion Sajad Moradi of Iran who
finished on the second place with a performance of 1:46.35s. India’s
Ghamanda Ram finally managed to live up to his potential of being among
the best of Asia in 800m by winning his maiden Asian Championship bronze
medal in person best timing of 1:46.36s.
Women 800m: Vietnam’s Thanh Hang Truong finally
cracked the code to win the titles and she did it today by executing
perfect plan to win maiden Asian title in 800m with a timing 2:01.41s.
Margarita clocked 2:02.46 to finish on the second place. Both Thanh and
Margarita were threatened by India’s Tintu Luka towards the end of the
run but she faded to the third place with a timing of 2:02.55s .
Men 200m: Asian Games Champion Femi Shun Ogunode of
Qatar equalled Asian Championship record with a blistering sprint from
start to finish in the men’s 200m final with an impressive performance
of 20.41 . Hitoshi Saito of Japan amended his medal position from 2009
with a silver finish in a time of 20.75s..Bronze medal went to defending
champion Omar Al-Salfa of UAE with a performance of 20.97s
Women 200m: Host Japan’s new sprinting queen Chisato
Fukushima became only the fourth sprinter to win both Asian Games and
Asian Championships when she won women 200m final of the 19th Asian
Athletics Championship with a season best timing of 23.49sec . Gretta
Taslakian of Lebanan won surprisingly silver medal in 24.01sec. Saori
Imai of Japan took bronze medal in 24.06s
Men's 5000m: D.R.Mootumaa of Bahrain broke 18 year old Asian
Championship record of 13min 41.70sec in the Men's 5000m final with a
timing of 13:39.71sec. Its first gold medal for Bahrain in this event at
the Championship. Yuki Sato of Japan took over Alemu Bekele Gebre of
Bahrain in the last 50m to take silver medal with recording breaking
time of 13min 40.78sec. Alemu ended his run with bronze medal in 13min
41.93sec.
Women's 5000m: T.D.Chalchissa of Bahrain smashed 16 years old Asian
Championship record in the women 5000m in the convincing manner. She led
from start to finish and clocked 15min 22.48sec to set new record.
Hitomi Niiya of Japan was distinct second with a performance of 15min
34.19sec. Another Japanese runner Yuriko Kobayashi grabbed bronze in
15min 42.59sec.
Men 400m Hurdles: It is very rare to see foul starts in one lap event
but this time there were two foul starts which resulted into
disqualifcation of two finalist Hassan Aman Salmeen of Qatar and
Takayuki Kishimoto of Japan. World Junior Silver medalist Takatoshi Abe
of Japan won the gold medal with a seson best timing of of 49.64sec.
Yuta Imazeki also from Japan finished on the second place in 50.22sec
while Chieh Chen of Chinese Taipai won bronze medal in 50.39sec.
Women 400m Hurdles: Satomi Kubokura of Japan not only defended her title
but also made hat trick of winning three consecutive Asian Championship
title in the women 400m hurdles. Satomi clocked 56.52sec to win gold
medal. Young and talented Qi Yang of China set new personal best with a
performance of 56.69sec and maiden silver medal in the Asian
Championship. USA Based C.S. Merril of Sri Lanka earned bronze medal in
57.30sec.
Men's Hammer Throw: Ali Zenkawi of Kuwait was 19 years old when he had
won his first Asian Championship title in Manila in 2003 in the Men's
Hammer Throw and today he repeated that feat for the fourth time to
surpass his father's three Asian title in shot put. Ali threw 73.73m to
claim his 4th title. In the absence of Koji Murofushi, Hiroshi Noguchi
and Hiroaki Doi carried the Japanese hope and they delivered it by
winning silver and bronze medal with a throw of 70.89m and 70.69m
respectively.
Men High Jump: World Junior, Asian Games and Asian Junior
Champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar is now Asian Champion and he did it
that in style, clearing a height of 2.35m , a new personal best and new
Asian Championship record ( old 2.32m set in 1995). He was given run for
his glory by Syrian Majd Eddin Ghazal ( 2.28m and silver medal) and Chen
Wang ( 2.26m and Bronze medal).
Women Triple Jump: Former Asian record holder and Asian Games Champion
Xie Limei of China set leading Asian mark for this season with a gold
medal winning effort of 14.54m in the Women's triple jump final. Xie's
winning jump came in the 4th round. World youth Bronze medalist Valeriya
Kanatova of Uzbekistan won silver medal with a jump of 14.14m while
India's Mayookha Johny won her second medal of this championship. Johny
won bronze medal with a jump of 14.11m, a new Indian record.
Women Pole Vault: Sha Wu of China was 16 years old when she won her
first Asian Championship title in the women's Pole Vault in Manila in
2003. Today she kept Chinese domination in the Women Pole vault by
winning gold medal, clearing height of 4.35m. Ling Li, also from China
grabbed silver medal with a performance of 4.30m. Yunhee Choi of South
Korea won bronze medal with a performance of 4.00m.
Men Shot Put: Supporters of Chinese Taipei were emotional when they
heard National Antham of Chiense Taipai for the first time in 15 years
at the Asian Championship and Chang Mingh-Huang was responsible for this
sweet moment which he had achieved by winning men's Shot Put title with
a new championship record of 20.14m and beating defending champion Om
Prakash Singh who finished on the third place with a throw of 19.47m.
Chinese thrower Jun Zhang won silver medal with a throw of 19.77m.
Women Heptathlon: Wassanee Winatho (31) of Thailand was ecstatic after
winning her first ever Asian Championship title in the most grueling
event of Heptathlon by scoring total points of 5710. Humie Takehara of
Japan made strong finish in the 800m run which helped her to climb from
4th place to 2nd place with a total points of 5491. Chie Kiriyama paid
price for slow 800m and ended on the bronze medal position with totle
points of 5442.
Men 3000m Steeplechase:
Ali Abubaker Kamal of Qatar won
men's 3000m steeple chase final with a season best timing of
8:30.23sec. Kossinov Artem of Kazakstan won silver medal in 8:35.11sec
while Taher of Bahrain took bronze literally by walking at the
finish line in 8:45.47.
Men Decathlon :Finally, after two runner up
positions, Hadi Sepehrzad of Iran emerged toughest athlete of Asia by
winning exciting contest of ten events spread over two days with a total
points of 7506 points beating Akihiko Makmura of Japan by just 28
points. Nakamura won silver medal in 7478 points. India's Bhartender
Singh Cheema won bronze medal with a performance of 7358 points.
Men Triple Jump:
Yevgeniy Ektov of Kazakstan beat
Asian record holder Li Yanxi of China in the final of the Men's Triple
Jump with a jump of 16.91m. Ektov avenged his defeat by Li Yanxi in the
Asian Games 2010. Li could managed only 16.70m. Defending champion Roman
Valiyev finished third with 16.62m.
Men 400m:
Yousef Ahmed Masrahi became the
first gold medal winner in the men's 400m from Saudi Arabia in the
history of Asian Championship with a timing of 45.79sec. His late surge
was too much to handle for Hirose Hideyuki of Japan who ended on the
second place with 46.03sec. Yuzo Kanemaru also from Japan took bronze
medal in 46.38sec. Eariler Ahmed Al-Marjibi of Oman was disqualifed for
foul start.
Women 400m:
Twice Asian Games champion Olga
Tereshkova of Kazakhstan added Asian Championship title to her
illustrious career in 400m with a timing of 52.37sec. Gulustand Ieso of
Iraq not only created new national record for Iraq but also became the
first medal winner for Iraq in the Asian Championship 2011. She finished
on the second place with 52.80sec. Chen Jingwen of China took bronze in
52.89sec.
Men 100m: Bingtian Su of China emerged
fastest Asian men in the men's 100m final full of drama on the second
day of the Asian Athletics Championship in Kobe. Su clocked 4th fastest
timing in Asian Champioship 10.21sec to cross the finish line. Host
Japan's favorite Masashi was disqualified for foul start but later was
allowed to run who finished on the second place with 10.28sec and his
teammate Sota Kawatsura took bronze in 10.30sec.
Women 100m: Guzel Khubbieva of Uzbekistan
executed the perfect race to complete full set of medal in the Asian
Championship with a gold medal in 11.39sec in the 100m Final. Former
Asian Games championship was quick to come out of the block and gain
intial lead which she futher extended with her agressive style to win
the coveted title. Wei Yongli and Yujia Tao of China finished on the
distinct second and third place respectively with 11.70s and 11.74sec.
Women 1500m: Genzebe Shami Regasa of Bahrain
lived upto the expecations of winning gold medal in the women 1500m with
a convincing performance of 4:15.91sec. She beat Truong Thanh Hang
of Vietnam who won her first slive medal with a timing of 4:18.40sec.
Bronze went to India's O. P. Jaisha with 4:21.41sec
Men 1500m: Mohammad Alazemi won first gold
medal for Kuwait in the 1500m run with a timing of 3:42.89sec. He also
maintained domination of Gulf countires over 1500m run in the Asian
Championship. Sajad Moradi of Iran won silver medal.
Men Pole Vault: Daichi Sawano was third time proud
to be Asian Champion in Pole vault when he cleared 5.50m to claim title.
Daichi had won pole vault title in 2002 and 2005. He said "Asian
Championship is always special to him and to win gold medal is very
proud moment". His next aim is to finish within medal position in the
World Championship. Hiroki Ogita also from Japan won his maiden Asian
medal with 5.40m. Chinese Yang Yansheng finsihed on the third
place clearing height of 5.40m.
Women Discus Throw: China extended their domination in
the women discus throw with 16th gold medal from 19th Asian Championship
and this time it was Sun Taifeng who hurled 60.89m to win. Ma Xuejun
also from China finished on the second place with 59.67m. India's
Harwant Kaur won bronze medal with 57.99m.
Men 10000m: Bahrain runners dominate 10000m
event. M. A. Mahboob of Bahrain won men's 10000m run with a timing of
28:35.49, 4th fasteest in the Asian Championship history. His teammate
B.S .Gelasa was close behind on the second place with a timing of 28min
36.30sec. Sizable Japanese crwod cheers for Akinobu Murasawa who
finished on the third place with 28min 40.63sec.
Women 10000m: S. E. Habitegbrel of Bahrain won
gold medal in women 10000m with a timing of 32min 47.80sec. Teammate and
2007 Champion Kareema Jasim Saleh took silver with 32:50.90sec and
India's Preeja Sreedharan won Bronze medal in 33:16.55sec. Event was
intially led by Japannese runners and then Bahrain Runners came into
action with a breakway lap of 74sec and then maintained 80sec lap while
gradually increasing pace to 77sec towards end.
Women Long Jump :India's Mayookha Johny realised her
dream of winning Asian Championship title in the Long Jump with a jump
of 6.56m. She is on her way to emaulate her idol, Anju George. Anju had
won Asian Championship gold in 2005. Chinese Lu Minjia finished on the
second place with 6.52m. Japan's Saeko Okayama finsihed on the 3rd place
with 6.51m.
Women Javelin Throw: Chinese women dominated Javelin
Throw with repeat of 1-2 finish. Liu Chunhua succesfully defended her
title with a throw of 58.05m and her teammate Wang Ping took silver in
55.80m. Host Japan's Sato Yuki threw 54.16m to win bronze
Women Hammer Throw: Masumi Aya of Japan not only
overcome Chinese dominanace but also won her maiden Continental title in
the Women Hammer Throw on the rain soggy afternoon in Kobe with a throw
of 67.19m, just a few centimeters outside her personal best. Tingting
Liu of China was second with 65.42m and sister of Olympic Champion Koji
Murofushi, Yuka Murafushi won bronze medal with a distance of 62.50m
Men Discus Throw: Asian record holder Ehsan Hadidi of
Iran won 4th consecutive Asian title and first gold medal of the 19th
Asian Athletics Championship with a 5th round throw of 62.27m. India's
Vikas Gowda win silver with 61.58m. Bronze went to Wu Jian of China
56.61m
Japan hoping to rise to the
occasion in Kobe - Asian champs PREVIEW-
Kobe, Japan - Qualification for the upcoming IAAF World Championships in
Daegu and next year's Olympic Games should be on the minds of a majority
of the athletes as they get down to compete in the 19th Asian Athletics
Championships at the Kobe Universiade Stadium, from 7-10 July-
IAAF story
The 19th Asian Athletics Championships will be
held in Kobe from 7-10 July 2011. About 500 athletes from 45 member
countries and regions of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) will
compete for the prestiguios championship at Kobe Universiade Memorial
Stadium.
